Master forms vs SpecPDM templates

Master forms are templates created in the Supplier’s Guide. The master form is a parent form for all specifications. If you use Supplier’s Guide together with SpecPDM, you may have only one master form per form type (i.e. one for materials, another for supplier’s questionnaire).

SpecPDM templates are used to create subsets of criteria specific for different types of materials (meat, vegetables, packaging materials, etc.). SpecPDM templates are created using the Templates manager. SpecPDM templates are assigned to type, area, and group.

Published master form

There is always only one version of a specific master form with the status Published. This means that the master form is used in production to create specifications.

In order to adjust a published master form, you need to create a new version of this form (for example version 1.0. becomes 1.1.). This new version of the master form (1.1.) will get the status Draft. The legacy version (1.0.) will remain in the status Published.

Draft master form

The master form with the status Draft is in an editable mode. This version is a candidate for the next published version.

You may edit this draft version of the master form as long as you need; it can be kept in the status Draft for days or weeks if necessary. Once you are finished with the changes, you can publish the master form. The draft version of the master form (1.1) will become published, and you will lose access to the previous published version (1.0). If you want to edit the published version 1.1., you need to create a new draft version 1.2. out of the  published version 1.1., etc.
