Swissness

In Switzerland, a legislation has been passed concerning the term "Swissness," which governs that food containing Swiss symbols (i.e. the Swiss cross) or terms (i.e. Swiss style) meet the necessary regulations of 80% made-in-Switzerland ingredients. For food products, 80% of the weight of raw materials and the essential processing must take place in Switzerland. The exception is milk and milk products, which must be met at 100%. Excluded from this list are natural products that Switzerland cannot produce (e.g. palm oil). The SpecPDM feature allows users to calculate whether or not a product meets the Swissness criteria.

This feature requires access permission Operating Elements/Modules/Master data/Tab sheet → Swissness. In the right panel of the screen, you can set the permission for Swissness to Enabled.

Once you have enabled this permission, go to the Master Data module. In the Ingredients tab, there will be a new sub-tab called Swissness.

In this tab, you can view the material classifications associated with the components of your ingredient list. The default classifications are to be defined in Administration/Trade Definition as pictured below. The selection list used for Swissness can be created under Administration/General/Selection lists and assigned using a designated program parameter.

The columns of the Swissness tabs are as follow:

Classification: This selection will give the required classification or group of Swissness.

Required Swiss Quota:  For raw materials, once selected, a target value is given for the Swissness quota of that material. This value needs to be calculated into the recipe.

Calculated Swiss Quota: Required Swiss Quota x the Swissness level.

Effective Swiss Quota: This value can be set by the user. This value will help determine if the outcome has reached the necessary levels to be considered Swissness.

Outcome: Determines whether the component is Swissness or not. The threshold level for qualifying as 'Swiss' can be defined using a designated program parameter.

If Effective Swiss Quota is less than the Calculated Swiss Quota, then it is "Not Swiss".

If Effective Swiss Quota is greater than/equal to Calculated Swiss Quota, then it is "Swiss".

If Effective Swiss Quota is left empty, then the outcome receives the value "N.A.".

Once you have adjusted these component values as necessary and the Master Data record is ready, you can create a recipe in the Recipe module. Based on the information you have entered in the Master Data, the same information will be reflected in the Declaration/Ingredients/Swissness. The status will be revealed in the Outcome column. The information can also be adjusted in this table.

The calculation base for Swissness is the value in column % in.

Declaration_Swissness

After saving the ingredients list, you can choose the function Commit to Master Data in the Assignments tab. The Swissness will be transferred automatically.

You can see that the source of Swissness is declaration. You can unselect the checkbox and the Swissness will be recalculated based on the Master data values. This operation cannot be reversed.

This information will be printed in the finished product specification report.
